The scope of the fires that have swept through the county the last day and a half is extremely hard to describe. Much of the county looks like a war zone. It is really hard to get good information, despite the best efforts of the local media, because new fires keep popping up, and fingers keep spreading in different directions from the current fires.
We have made it another night in our home in Poway, and I feel very grateful for that. I woke up thinking about all the people down at Qualcomm Stadium, and how difficult a night it must have been for them. I do not know if we can avoid mandatory evacuation for another day, but I am hoping. Poway has lost 50 homes to the fire, and last I heard Rancho Bernardo, which is the community to our immediate north, has lost at least 300. Yesterday, they were estimating 250k evacuations, but this morning large new areas are affected and many more mandatory evacuations.
It is not going to be a good day in San Diego. The Santa Ana winds are expected to whip back up again today. Hopefully the firefighters stay safe and catch some breaks.
